Lead hook / recover
Mechanics / Hands / Shadow
Practice a compact hook shape without impact.

Compact arc
- Use the hook mechanics your coach has taught.
- Keep the movement compact and unforced.
- Let the hand return before repeating.
Mechanics / Build / Shadow
Why it matters
The hook is the hardest punch to read from the outside because the work is in the hips and the elbow, not the hand. Playing it slowly from the front camera shows the arc where the target would be.
Walk through it
- GuardClose enough that the arm will stay bent
- PrepareLoad by turning the lead side, not by pulling the hand back
- ArcThe elbow keeps its angle and the hips carry the fist across
- RecoverBack to the same guard on the same side
Common faults
- Pulling the hand back to loadThe load is in the hips; the glove should not go behind the shoulder line
- Elbow dropsThe elbow rides level with the fist; a dropped elbow makes a slap
- Turning past the targetThe hook finishes across the centre line, not behind you
Drill
3 rounds of 2 min, 45 s rest. 8 slow hooks a round, checking the elbow height at the arc
Solo study: no partner, no contact, not verified by a coach. Rehearse a movement your coach has already shown you.
The movements inside it
- Boxing guard: Set the feet, Hands home, Check balance, Ready. Watch for: Avoid bringing the feet onto one tightrope.
- Lead hook: Guard, Prepare, Arc, Recover. Watch for: Use the camera to inspect depth. This study does not prescribe your individual elbow angle.
Where it sits
Mechanics: One punch at a time, slowed down: where the heel, the hip and the elbow are at the moment it lands.

Sessions that use it: Ten-minute intention.
Rehearse, then reflect
Open the visual study to see the movement from four cameras. Start slowly using the movement taught by your coach, pause between repetitions and keep the range comfortable. Add the study to a session when you want a timed block, and record one useful observation afterward.
